Associate Director of Alumni Engagement

Chatham University's Office of University Advancement, which serves a diverse population of over 17,000 Chatham University alumni and friends, welcomes applications for the position of Associate Director of Alumni Engagement.

The Associate Director should be an organized, collaborative, and highly motivated individual who will seek to engage undergraduate and graduate alumni in furthering the University's mission through volunteering, mentoring, attending events, and making financial contributions in a fast-paced environment.

This position will support the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Individual Giving and will supervise the Alumni Volunteer Coordinator while working collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and events.

The Associate Director will play a vital role in developing alumni engagement programs relevant for Chatham's diverse alumni population-alumnae from its time as an undergraduate female college, alumni from the professional and continuing education graduate and doctoral degree programs, and now alumni as an all-gender institution served on two distinct campuses. The Associate Director will explore new programming opportunities while also overseeing existing engagement programs that will build long-term relationships with our alumni base. These programs include Chatham Connect (a virtual platform that is exclusive for Chatham alumni and students to engage and connect through mentoring and purposeful conversations), Class Secretaries, virtual and in-person mentorship, and regional alumni ambassadors.

This position will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule with both remote and in-person work on a weekly basis. Specific schedules are based on job functions and project workload and are determined with supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director and Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Events to plan and implement alumni programs/events that will engage Chatham alumni and further the University's mission. These programs include but are not limited to Alumni Reunion Weekend, Chatham Connect, Mentorship, Class Secretaries, partnership with Career Development and Regional Engagement.
  • In conjunction with Advancement leadership, develop and manage an annual communications plan and calendar.
  • Manage the print and email marketing program for Alumni Engagement event invitations and Alumni e-News.
  • Establish and build relationships with alumni locally, regionally, and nationally via virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Partner with Career Development, Admissions, and Student Affairs to develop volunteer opportunities, which connect Chatham alumni with students for recruitment, mentoring, internships, and other career-related purposes.
  • Supervise the alumni volunteer coordinator who is responsible for managing tasks related to Chatham Connect, the First Year-focused mentorship program, Young Alumni Committee, and Alumni Association social media.
  • Draft content for social media posts for the Alumni Association's Facebook and Instagram accounts and update content for the Alumni Engagement sections of Chatham's website.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs and interests of alumni in order to develop and strengthen relationships with the University.
  • Previous experience mobilizing and motivating volunteers.
  • Proven strength in interpersonal and communication skills-written and oral.
  • Experience in successfully managing multiple, fast-paced projects independently.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Committed to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel independently throughout the Pittsburgh region.
  • Ability to travel outside of the Pittsburgh region 4-6 times per year.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends when required for special alumni and donor events or travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three to five years of relevant experience in higher education and/or the nonprofit sector.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity working with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Constant Contact, and mainstream computer software like Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
